The Center for Homicide Research is a unique, volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization addressing the issue of homicide in our communities.
The three-fold goals of the Center are to increase case solvability, to articulate homicide issues and to reduce incidence of homicide. Our ultimate aim is to prevent homicides.
Mission
The mission of the Center for Homicide Research is to promote greater knowledge and understanding of the unique nature of homicide through sound empirical research, critical analysis, and effective community partnerships.
History
The Center for Homicide Research was initially incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1999 under the name Minnesota Gay Homicide Study. The initial research project established information involving lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) homicide in Minnesota over the past 50 years; the first time a database of this kind has ever been created. In 2004, the Minnesota Gay Homicide Study expanded and changed its name to the Center for Homicide Research. As part of that change, it also expanded its mission to include all marginalized communities and underrepresented areas of homicide victimization and investigation. For over fifteen years the Center for Homicide Research has been on the cutting edge of developing lasting resources on the subject of homicide, while also promoting systemic change in data collection, law enforcement practices, and public policy construction.About Us
